2014 UNW / Snohomish County 4-H Foundation Show - Monroe, WA

United NorthWest Model Railroad Club is proud to announce its 23nd Annual Model Train Show and Marketplace to benefit Snohomish County 4-H Foundation   February 1 - 2, 2014. It is hosted at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe WA. The 2014 Show will be in the same buildings as the 2013 show.


Even though our beloved Seattle Seahawks will be playing in the Super Bowl on Sunday Feb 2nd, the UNW Show will be open normal hours on Sunday.

I. UNW/Snohomish County 4-H Show Info:

1) Location: 
Evergreen State Fairgrounds 
14405 179th Avenue SE 
Monroe, WA 98272

Buildings:

A. Pavilion (Building 600): Top of L, approximately 13,500 sq. feet. Will be location of the clinics, swap and vendor tables, and booths and layouts
B. Event Center (Building 604): Corner of L, approximately 33,600 sq. feet. Will be the location of the show office, vendor tables, and booths and layouts
C. 4H Building (Building 501): Leg of L, approximately 15,000 sq. feet. Will focus on swap tables and smaller layouts

2) Dates and Show Times: 
Sat February 1st, 10AM - 5PM 
Sun February 2nd, 10AM - 4PM

3) Admission (100% Goes to Charity):
Adults (18+): $8.00
Juniors(10-17): $6.00
Seniors (65+): $6.00
Kids (9 & under): FREE! w/paid adult
Admission Valid for Both Days!

Free Parking is available, and for your convenience ATM's are onsite

6) Clinics

Saturday Feb 1st
11:00am - 12:00pm: Susan Evans - Track Laying, Ballasting and More
This clinic will demonstrate how to have a good foundation for track, laying cork roadbed, laying track, and installing ballast. Other topics discusses will be electrical connections, turnout types and others as time permits.

12:30pm - 1:30pm: Dave Montgomery - The Modeler's Toolbox
Primer on tolls that a modeler can have for their toolbox. Presented by one of the most talented modelers in the hobby today.

2:00pm - 3:00pm: Walt Huston - DCC "Just the basics"
"Just the basics" of DCC such as wiring the layout, reverse loops, and Power Districts. Also covers wiring frogs for power.

3:30pm - 4:30pm: Doug Nighswonger - Historic Passenger Trains of Washington State
Come learn about passenger trains of the Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Union Pacific, Milwaukee Road, and others. Also covers the Seattle - Portland "Pool Trains".

Sunday Feb 2nd
10:30am - 11:30am: Doug Hoff - Basic Scenery for your Model Railroad
Covers the basics of adding scenery to your model railroad.

12:00pm - 1:00pm: Noel Holley - The GN Electrification
Come learn about the Great Northern Electrification from noted author and historian Mr. Noel Holley.

1:30pm - 2:30pm: Martin Burwash - "Vis Major the Railroader's Perspective"
The 1910 Wellington avalanche, talking about how the events unfolded, and more important, WHY the events unfolded as they did. By seeing the disaster from the point of view of the railroaders, some of the myths will be debunked and a better understanding of the event can be gained. I will give a short presentation, then open the floor to Q&A.

Free parking is located on-site the days of the show 
 
RV fees per night are $25.00 with utilities, $20.00 without utilities as of of 06/23/2013. Please check with the Fairgrounds at (425) 388-6600 or (360) 805-6700 with any questions as these rates could change by the date of the show.

II. Directions:

From Seattle: 
East via I-90 or SR-520 to I-405 North 
North on I-405 to SR-522 (Exit 23) 
East on SR-522 to Highway 2 
Right at the stoplight 
Go west on Highway 2 for 1/2 mile - Evergreen State Fairgrounds is on the right.

From SeaTac Airport: 
Follow freeway directions towards Seattle 
SR-518 turns into I-405 North 
Stay on I-405 North towards Renton/Bellevue 
East on SR-522 to Highway 2 
Right at the stoplight 
Go west on Highway 2 for 1/2 mile - Evergreen State Fairgrounds is on the right.
