2013 UNW / Snohomish County 4-H Foundation Show - Monroe, WA
The 2013 United NorthWest Model Railroad Club Show & Swap Meet was another success! We would like to thank all the vendors, participants, clubs and attendees for help making this show one of the largest in the area, and all for charity!

Model Railroad Club is proud to announce its 22nd annual
model railroad show and swap meet to benefit Snohomish County
4-H Foundation
February 2 - 3, 2013. It is hosted at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds
in Monroe WA. The 2013 Show will be in the same area but in different buildings.

Buildings:
A. Pavilion (Building 600): Top of L, approximately 13,500 sq. feet. Will be location of the clinics, swap and vendor tables, and booths and layouts
B. Events Center (Building 604): Corner of L, approximately 33,600 sq. feet. Will be the location of the show office, vendor tables, and booths and layouts
C. 4H Building (Building 501): Leg of L, approximately 15,000 sq. feet. Will focus on swap tables and smaller layouts

Location: Pavilion
Topic: Milwaukee Road Electrification
Description: The Milwaukee Electrics. The Milwaukee Road was a world pioneer in the use of electric locomotives, and from 1915 until the 1950s, the Milwaukee had the world’s longest railroad electrification. The slides and presentation by Noel Holley will show you those fascinating locomotives and the line that carried them from Montana to Seattle and Tacoma.

Description: What every well intentioned modeler should have on hand!

Topic: DCC - "Just The Basics"
Description: Just the Basics" of DCC such as wiring the layout, reverse loops and Power Districts.
Walt will cover wiring frogs for power too, then take questions from the audience.
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Bob Zenk

Topic: Epic Fail - Those Krauss-Maffei Diesel-Hydraulics
Description: 1960s German high-tech horsepower comes to America, and fails..successfully. The world's most audacious experiment in diesel motive power, with dozens of photos on view for the first time in fifty years. What really happened, from the insider's view on both sides of the ocean. (See this one, but come back for Part Two!)

Topic: Never Say Never: The Salvation of SP 9010
Description: How to save a KM - the story of SP 9010 and the unlikeliest restoration ever.
Pulled from the scrap pile 45 years ago, converted to a Camera Car for a NASA-style
locomotive simulator, abandoned and vandalized, then rescued by an unprecedented
international cooperative effort. Amazing inside story of the Camera Car, pics of the
incredible 2013 restoration effort, and a lot of cool KM modeling too.

Description: How you can build a photo diorama. This clinic will focus on N scale.

Topic: "Vis Major, The Railroader's Perspective"
Description: The 1910 Wellington avalanche, talking about how the events unfolded, and more important,
WHY the events unfolded as they did. By seeing the disaster from the point of view of the railroaders,
some of the myths will be debunked and a better understanding of the event can be gained.
Martin will give a short presentation, then open the floor to Q&A.

Topic: Modeling Ponds, Streams And Miscellaneous Water
Description: Learn the art and science of realistic model pond and stream construction from the ground up. Different products, tips and pitfalls will be covered. Other incidental water applications for a layout will also be discussed.

Free parking is located on-site the days of the show
RV charges per night are $26.00 hookup; $18.00 without hookup as of
09/01/10. Please check with the Fairgrounds with any questions as these
rates could change by the date of the show. Please pay at the Fairgrounds
Office as you arrive.

From Seattle:
East via I-90 or SR-520 to I-405 North
North on I-405 to SR-522 (Exit 23)
East on SR-522 to Highway 2
Right at the stoplight
Go west on Highway 2 for 1/2 mile - Evergreen State Fairgrounds is on
the right.
From SeaTac Airport:
Follow freeway directions towards Seattle
SR-518 turns into I-405 North
Stay on I-405 North towards Renton/Bellevue
East on SR-522 to Highway 2
Right at the stoplight
Go west on Highway 2 for 1/2 mile - Evergreen State Fairgrounds is on
the right.
